I agree with Pickle. If the threat is great enough and the evil they are facing is strong enough, people will do whatever it takes to stop it and it that means thousands of men storming into the Gates of Hell to do it, they'll do it.

Amphibious assaults are difficult, but I think they remain a viable option under the right conditions. Whether one will ever be done again on the scale of the Normandy landings is doubtful, but there are times when a beachhead may need to be secured and doing so from the inland side may not be possible.

Does anyone know if the Amphibious Warfare School in Little Creek is still in operation? After attending it back in the day, I knew I would much rather take my chances jumping in and seizing an airhead in enemy territory than trying to seize a beachhead. I'd rather leave that insanity to the Jarheads and the Squids.
