Well first I will say that yes the Dept of Def could do a better job with their money, but so can every agency in the US Gov't. Second the Def budget is less than 20% of the entire budget, do you want us to cut the other 80% in half as well?
Third, the Dept of Defense is not a business, they do not make a product they never will have a positive balance.
As far as your cut everything, who do you suppose will defend our country? there is no such thing as excessive training, if you cut maintaining your equipment it wears out faster and must be replaced at a much higher cost, so you really lose money. I have found that most of the politicians and socialist whack O's that keep yelling Cut defense have always been to much of a coward to serve, but they are brave enough to let others fight for them with less.

This sort of thing would be like looking over your personal finances to reduce your personal spending but instead of focusing on the things that are making you broke like the luxury car in the driveway that you shouldnt have bought and can't afford, the seven bedroom home that you shouldn't have bought and can't afford, the handful of vacations per year that you put on a credit card that you can't afford to pay off, the cash advance you took so you can support your gaming addiction, and the combination of the unlimited phone plan, 1000 channels on your cable box, and super fast internet, you ignore all of that and focus on your three times a week Starbucks run. Because that's going to solve the spending problem that you claim you care about.
