That reminded me of the time in Seattle where a bunch of whacked out environmentalists were in plastic kayaks protesting an oil rig heading through on the way to Alaska.

They were chanting about the evils of fossil fuel use and such. Someone asked them about the hypocrisy of transporting their petroleum based kayaks to the Puget Sound in their gas guzzling SUV's and they said that it's OK because they are using the resource responsibly.

Many environmentalists, and I would put myself in this group, would love to see the expansion of truly dedicated and safe bike lanes in order to reduce car traffic and usage. Most roadways are never built with bikes in mind and in my opinion that should change. Bikes should have equal focus, and there have been plenty of studies and engineering examples that show dedicated bike lanes can dramatically reduce the amount of emissions in and around cities and reduce injuries and deaths

The difference between a kayak made with some petroleum vs an oil rig carrying millions of pounds of oil is not comparable.

Well, yes. People pay for what they value. If a certain park isn't getting funding, then that means people don't value it as much as they do other things. Government merely says to those people: We reject your values and substitute our own. How is that fair? Suppose I want my money to go towards my healthcare or my retirement savings instead of some fancy visitor center in a forest preserve I'll probably visit once or twice in my entire life?

There is always going to be the need for conventional forces.

You are right in that our form of democracy is not appropriate for or even desired by every nation on earth. For some reason, we have developed this idealistic notion that every nation on earth can be a place where democracy can thrive. That just isn't the case and it never will be.

Then you support their hypocricy. That's fine.

Besides, the oil rig carries no crude oil. It extracts this natural resource from the earth so it can be refined for use by people like you and me. Even the protesters gain the benefits of this product.

I am not retired - 7 more years to achieve my full benefit of $2100 at present.

Will you now inject the "Ponzi Scheme" Meme @Private Pickle?
