Thumbs up Trump cuts National Forest budget by 71%

And if Congress approves, a man who's likely never been on good hiking, fishing, boating or camping expedition in one of these national treasures won't give a rat's ass when they close.

WASHINGTON The roads to the national forests could get bumpier. Literally.

Trails could get messier. Maintenance on bridges, dams and recreation sites could become tougher.

That’s the potential fate of national forest projects, thanks to President Donald Trump’s proposed budget for fiscal 2018, which begins Oct. 1.

While the overall federal budget has plenty of cuts in agency after agency, the forest service plan has more drama, because the White House is seeking about $100 million in funding for capital improvement and maintenance, down from $363 million this year.

That’s a 73 percent cut, and could have a huge impact on recreation, according to Rebecca Turner, senior director of programs and policy for American Forests, a nonprofit conservation organization.

Turner said roads are used to access the trails leading to “majestic overlooks,” as well as lakes and rivers inside the forests. She said the budget cuts would also lead to camp sites and facilities not being maintained.

Turner said if the forest service is unable to maintain safe roads, boat launches and campgrounds, they’re likely to simply close.

Cut the military budget in half instead of giving an additional 30% to the Military Industrial Complex and we'll talk about the lousy 263 million for National Forests.

    Fair?

    Fair?
OK. But first cut entitlement programs in half... You know the things that take up the majority of our budget?

    SS, Medicare and Medicaid?

Nope - I paid for my SS and Medicare to the tune of many tens of thousands of dollars.

The investment in Medicaid pays for itself.

You want to look into waste, fraud and abuse .. fine

Actually no... Those of us not retired are paying for your SS and Medicaid because they are both defunct, socialized entitlement programs... If they weren't the debt wouldn't be increasing on those programs...

You wouldn't know "fair" if it bit you.
Suppose you were an idiot. And suppose you were a member of Congress. But I digress....

Lets gut the essential functions of government which are there to keep us safe and secure. After all, the world is becoming a safer place every day.
