Terrible choice of paint and the palm trees are misplacedJust looked in the "sprocket hole" nope, no rust. Is that like my wheels that are true that you asked me if I know how to true spokes?

I have been thinking about your beloved recumbent, Friend.
The greatest danger to bike riders comes from traffic near them, approaching from the rear.
Now what do they see when driving up to a bicyclist in the right lane?
    1. The back and head of the rider. That is the largest, most obvious part of the driver's view.
    2. Then, the rider's legs and arms.
    3. Then the end view of the tire, always black.

A tiny shred of the rear frame may be visible, but it is not prominent at all.

So the reason for orange paint is invalid. You want to be seen, put a flashing red light
facing the rear, and a flashing headlight on the front.

And ride on the sidewalk, pulling off into the grass for all pedestrians. If there is no grass, hop off the curb and
yield. I did this a few months ago and the grass was three inches above the sidewalk. The grass caught my front tire,
and I went down past the curb into the street just as a fire truck was coming by. It pulled over and three firemen
got out to check on me. Asked me if I was "all right." Told them I'm fine. They asked again. I said "I'll arm wrestle
you for a hundred bucks." Then rode away.

You can't make this stuff up. Split my head open a year ago when I went without a helmet on account of I let my niece wear it. Took 11 stitches to close the gap.

I ride on sidewalks in high traffic, narrow shoulder roads, otherwise I ride on the right shoulder. I have a rechargeable 12 volt in the opposite saddle bag, it powers two automotive accent, light strips. They are very bright. Not sure if you can see it in the pic but I have a Bushnell 1,500 lumen rechargeable flashlight on the front.

At night, I am lit up like a x-mas tree. I have a big rearview mirror on the left handlebar.

There are certain situations where sidewalk riding is better, but VC (vehicular cycling) is perfectly safe if you do it right. Sidewalks are where you get cut off for lack of visibility. Been practicing VC my entire life and have been fine.

A wreck on a recumbent is less likely to result in a head injury. Your hip hits the ground.

@Common I put my bike on the scale at the scrapyard yesterday 51 pounds as pictured, if I got rid of the bags (tools inside) I bet it would knock 10 pounds off. Not terrible, an average mountain bike is around 30 pounds with super high end one a little over 20.

The owners planted the palm trees. The owner of the green trimmed house selected that color.
The others are typical colors throughout Southern California.

Their homes are worth $1,000,000, and YOU judge their taste?

Please show the audience a picture of your place. From what I can tell of the surroundings near your recumbent, your residence is worth something less than $1,000,000. But I could be wrong.

Not my house pictured, you are the one that started nit picking. Are you always such a petty critic? Do you know how to weld and fabricate?

Blow it off Resistor. Home-built the way you like it is great! After all you are tPF's local folk-art mechanic and explosives expert.

God awful fascia and design on those 80s looking homes. The architect should be ashamed.
