Trump shouted, sneered and lied his way into office by appealing to a large segment of the American public's desire for "straight talk" and overly simplistic answers. They seriously misidentified Trump as someone who shared their desire to reign in and punish waste, fraud, corruption and mismanagement. (Those were the voters who are not xenophobes, religious bigots and White nationalists; of course he had that sizeable minority in his pocket from Day One.) I believe that most Trump voters thought they were doing the right thing for the nation when they pulled that lever or marked that ballot. It would be nice if more of them would now be honest and admit their error.

That's what happens when taxes become the single largest expense in household budgets. The resentment becomes very real.

So far, Trump has acted over and over and over again in the best interests of the nation. He has put this country ahead of the rest of the planet, exactly as he should and exactly as his predecessor refused to do. He has to date, signed I believe, put into place 39 laws. He has undone a pretty fair number of Obama's executive orders, which were used to circumvent the Constitution. Domestic production is up. Jobs are up. He has told our "allies" that we will be there in time of need, but it is also time for them to stop feeding at the American trough. ISIS is in its death throes. He is trying, though not yet successfully, to rid the nation nation of the disgraceful abomination that is Obamacare.

Electing him was not an error.

The reaction to that very real slight was to vote against the establishment. It didn't help that the left put up a prime example of corruption and elitism either.

He didn't need to prey on them, he just acknowledged their legitimacy. That is what set him apart from all the other contenders, IMO.
