The terrorist diaspora: After the fall of the Caliphate

The terrorist diaspora: After the fall of the Caliphate

The day after the glorious Caliphate was declared I stated it would be short lived. That appears to be the case.

What's next? As I have said several times, a transnational terrorist organization.

This is Congressional testimony by Thomas Joscelyn in front of the House Homeland Security Committee's Task Force on Denying Terrorist Entry into the US.

Read it if you are interested.

Chairman Gallagher, Ranking Member Watson Coleman, and other distinguished Committee Members, thank you for inviting me to testify today concerning foreign fighters and the threat some of them pose to the U.S. and Europe.

The fall of Mosul and the likely fall of Raqqa won’t be the end of the Islamic State. The group has already reverted to its insurgent roots in some of the areas that have been lost. It also still controls some territory. The Islamic State will continue to function as a guerrilla army, despite suffering significant losses. In May, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) assessed that even though it was losing significant ground, the Islamic State “will likely have enough resources and fighters to sustain insurgency operations and plan terrorists [sic] attacks in the region and internationally” going forward. Unfortunately, I think ODNI’s assessment is accurate for a number of reasons, some of which I outline below. I also discuss some hypothetical scenarios, especially with respect to returning foreign fighters or other supporters already living in Europe or the U.S.

Politicians don't want the threat to go away. And neither do the war profiteering corporations like the arms manufactures and international banking firms.

It's a cash cow, and it gives them a pretext to accumulate more power at the expense of our liberty and our democratic sovereignty.

The politicians will never go after the real source of terrorism - Saudi Arabia - because they're in bed with the ultra wealthy Saudi aristocracy.

The "war on terror" is a corrupt money-making farce.

And the cost will be trillions of tax dollars, lost liberties, and dead westerners who get blown up in shopping malls and music concerts.
Power always thinks it has a great soul, and vast views, beyond the comprehension of the weak. And that it is doing God service when it is violating all His laws.
    --John Adams

What are your solutions to this eeyore reality you present above? Got any solutions? Answers? Who do we go after in Saudi Arabia, hasn't al-Qaeda become just as much a burden on that government? Private interests I would agree in Saudi Arabia finance terror, but there are state sponsors like Iran and Turkey that I think you omit here.

Do a Peter. Ends, ways, means analysis. What would Ethereal do?

Watch this....this will f'n be epic.

Appears to be the case because we got involved, Peter. This Caliphate had staying power in the absence of any opposition. Was the case.

What's next is prevention. Proactive measures to make sure the seed doesn't regrow. Support for Iraq military units. The rebuilding of Mosul and other cities occupied and destroyed by ISIS. The continued coordination of US and Iraq forces. Cyber activity targeted at their recruitment, stepped up border controls, and a massive presence in the ME.

Who is going to pay to rebuild Mosul?

The main problem in the ME is the hatred between the Sunnis and Shia. Does anyone expect the US to have the ability to solve that problem?

Who the fck do you think is going to pay for Mosul, Peter??!!!

    You. Me.

And don't sit there looking shocked either. Because I personally know the individual who spent time with you in explaining that the longer you sit there on your ass, the more expensive extracting ISIS from Mosul would be in both blood and money, whether it's via some international effort or what have you, the Aerican taxpayer is going to rebuild Mosul....Peter. It's an intended consequence of inaction. It's another I f'n told you so.

What id God's name.......who is going to rebuild Mosul........find a mirror, Pete.

Wow. This heat wave must be sucking brain waves or something.

When did the solving of a thousands of year old problem come in? When your arguments needed something to hide behind?

The US isn't going to pay to rebuild Mosul. The people would not stand for it.

My thread on the battle - the last post has a lot of pics from Mosul.

I don't think it is getting rebuilt any time soon.
