I'm not really sure what this is supposed to mean.

It sort of ruins the joke when you have to explain it.

Jokes aside, I believe I made some valid points about how security should be provided in an ostensibly free country.

Organized police forces in America - much like all forms of government in America - are bloated in size and scope of operation.

Such a system places a massive tax burden on the populace and represents an existential threat to the lives and liberty of the people.

I realize we're supposed to believe the mythology that "government protects" us, but that was never the original intent of American government.

Such a power is unlimited by dint of its vagueness and subjectivity, and the power to "protect" someone is the power to infantilize them.

People in a free country don't require the government to "protect" them. But that is probably why we are no longer a free country.

I wasn't really trying to convince you of anything. I'm just giving my opinion on the thread topic in the hope that it will generate a discussion of some sort. I'm weird like that.

That begs the question: do police departments lower standards to fill the ranks?

Lawsuits against local governments for police abuse are expensive.

Hiring morons because of budget issues isn't an excuse for proper training and accountability.
