Oregon democrats decide to tax Bicycles

The first ever bicycle excise tax in the nation is of course in a democratic state. Go figure.

Any bike costing more than 200$ will have to pay an 18$ (IIRC) excise tax. Not enough that sales and income tax cover roads and bike lanes, evidently. Whats next, pay to use sidewalks? Mandatory cyclist insurance? The powers that be in Oregon, smelled a way to fleece more $ , Oregon having a large cycling culture.

You want an example of what is wrong with the Democratic party? This is a fine one.https://bikeportland.org/2017/05/12/...t-trust-228278

No excuse for this, spandex clad mobs should take to the streets. I wonder did people get to vote on this?

you should learn to read for comprehension

    from your link

“This is an idea has come up in every legislative session over last seven years since I’ve been paying attention. It’s never gained a lot of traction because in the past it always felt punitive, an “us vs them” type of thing and it would always fizzle out in its first committee. But this year is different. It doesn’t seem to matter what party a legislator is in they’re all talking about this proposal. They’re trying to raise a lot of money. And at last night’s hearing, [Senator Brian] Boquist was describing a process to reach some level of partiy among road users to get everyone paying more. This [the bike tax] is just a part of that.”
    who is brian boquist?

    i'm glad you asked

Brian James Boquist (born October 20, 1958) is a Republican politician from the U.S. state of Oregon. He currently serves in the Oregon Senate representing District 12. Previously, he was in the Oregon House of Representatives, representing District 23 in the mid-Willamette Valley from 2005 to 2009.

    oh, and it's a bill, not a law, and it's a 5% proposed tax, not a flat $18 charge.

so, let's sum up what you got right, shall we?

    it's in oregon

    well done

I'm impressed, more than a one line troll response, well done. Some facts you got wrong and left out can be seen, herehttp://www.bicycleretailer.com/retail-news/2017/07/13/retailers-face-bike-tax-burden-oregon

Regardless of the details, how do you feel about it? It awaits the Democrat Governers signature, BTW

The majority of Americans didn't vote for Trump either. They got him, nevertheless.
