I don't believe I've ever heard it, either. My first impression was that it sounds like a word Bush 43 would have used.

But my mum can be a grammar Obersturmbannführer at times, so I asked our English teacher this morning. He said that it may appear in an American dictionary, but was not recognised as anything other than American slang by the OED, and I should avoid ever using it, as the perfectly well established 'converse' has the same meaning.

I Googled it and got mixed results.

But a lot of other sites said it was slang and should be avoided, as it makes you sound uneducated - cos the perfectly good word 'converse' has been around for centuries.

So what do people here think? Use it or not?
I abhor that word. Converse is sufficient. The "ate" is superfluous. I have an acquaintance who says "imaginate". It drives me nuts.
In quoting my post, you affirm and agree that you have not been goaded, provoked, emotionally manipulated or otherwise coerced into responding.

    Indeed.

What's the difference between a wise man and a smart man? A smart man would know that tomatoes are a fruit, a wise man would know not to put it in a fruit salad.

No, is not. It is another ignorant abuse of the English language: you be surprised?
