No one was upset or outraged about Hillary Clinton being defended by legal counsel. They were outraged that the justice department was corrupt and in the tank for her. Basically her legal counsel was guiding the Justice department's actions.
Besides, that isn't the topic here.
I see. So in the USA, guilty as charged is the norm, the defendant's trial being a farce because the feelings of the masses are put ahead of the entitlements of the accused.
I certainly hope that's the case when it comes to Trump's turn, and that of his family. I wouldn't want to see him treated any differently.
Yeah, I keep hearing that, been hearing it for years. I think it is bull$#@! drummed into the heads of young law students and is a perversion of what a lawyer's job is supposed to be. The idea behind legal representation is to make sure the rights of the accused are protected, that the state adheres to the law in its attempt to convict and punish someone accused of a crime, and present a case before the court in search of the truth. It was not supposed be a "My lawyer can beat up your lawyer, win at all costs" process.
I am a licensed PI. I have owned and operated a private investigations and security firm for 23 years. I don't do defense work anymore, even though I used to do a great deal of it. The reason I stopped is because of the actions of defense attorney I actually handled a fair number of cases for. It involved a man accused of breaking the neck of his girlfriend in what he claimed was consensual sex in which they fell out of bed. Her version of events was quite different. I spent about 2 months running down people who knew them both, or knew either of them well enough to give me some insight into who they were. I interviewed people in three states, dug very deeply into both of their backgrounds. The more I dug, the more I found that he had a violent history with ex-girlfriends, but had always managed to avoid criminal prosecution... usually by bribes or coercion.
After I felt I had enough information to work with, I went to the attorney and told her that she had better hope the criminal investigators were not as thorough as I was because if they were, her boy was going to prison. She should plead out and get as good a deal as possible for her client. Her response was to ask me to start digging up dirt to discredit possible witnesses against him.
I resigned from the case and haven't taken a criminal defense case since.
Somewhere the system went wrong. Justice has taken a backseat to winning. That is wrong.
