One sees a gradual decrease in poverty, increase in education and literacy, decrease in child mortality, and, starting late, increase in vaccinations. Prior to 2000 thereabouts one might have associated all that with a rise in democracy which, despite a decline leading into WWII, steadily increased to the point sodme, like Hayakawa, were declaring the end of history. But the last two decades, while thoe other things continue as usual, have seen a decline in democracy. You have to have at least a strong correlation to even think of demonstrating a causal releationship.
So what is making the world a better place, since it's not democracy?
