Back in '81 I had a drunk driving charge. They actually had that info and denied me entry because of that charge. I was asked, kindly, not to return.

Now, the only recourse I have is to apply for what is called a "Certificate of Rehabilitation" which would settle the crossing issue once and for all as it is a permanent document. I'm not concerned with the money involved (processing cost is $770US), it's the timing that's going to be the kicker. I had planned on reapplying with Trailways next May, but if I have to wait until around October 2018 to Feb. 2019, then it would push my goal way further than I hoped. So Monday, the Canadian Consulate is going to get a call from me and I begin my legwork to get all the documents I need, because if I recall, I can also apply for a Temporary Resident Permit (TRP) sooner, so that would be a stopgap measure until my certificate clears. The reason why I have to do this is because if I am going to drive motorcoach based in a border state, I MUST have the ability to cross the border.
    Good luck.

My strategy is this: The truth! The truth was that I was wrongfully convicted of said offence, but because of a weak alibi witness, I wound up taking a plea deal. Now, this will mean confronting the investigating office once again. But this time, I will have the BFD Division Chief and an attorney present. I may be able to have some legal muscle to force a statement of admission from the fire marshals.

OK, been a while since I posted any updates but I decided to take the smart approach and hire an immigration attorney that specializes in Canadian immigration law. I have some major funding coming by the end of December and I'm also waiting on paperwork from the Feds, so once I get all that together and finish my application binders, then I can get the ball rolling, with the attorney, for both the TRP and Certificate.

    Wise move. Congratulations.

Do the math. The almost $2K I invest now for the attorney and certificates that may help get me a job with an earning potential of $60K/year? Oh yes, it'll be worth it.

He's not emigrating, just clearing up the impediments to his being able to cross the border as a bus driver.

He lives in Buffalo. It stands to reason that many of the bus routes cross the border since people do like to check out other countries. Toronto and Montreal are popular destinations for people from the border states.
