Canadian Immigration Law and Certificate of Rehabilitation

OK folks, here's the situation. I have an "issue" that goes back 20 years but was serious enough for Canadian Customs to consider me inadmissible. Now, the only recourse I have is to apply for what is called a "Certificate of Rehabilitation" which would settle the crossing issue once and for all as it is a permanent document. I'm not concerned with the money involved (processing cost is $770US), it's the timing that's going to be the kicker. I had planned on reapplying with Trailways next May, but if I have to wait until around October 2018 to Feb. 2019, then it would push my goal way further than I hoped. So Monday, the Canadian Consulate is going to get a call from me and I begin my legwork to get all the documents I need, because if I recall, I can also apply for a Temporary Resident Permit (TRP) sooner, so that would be a stopgap measure until my certificate clears. The reason why I have to do this is because if I am going to drive motorcoach based in a border state, I MUST have the ability to cross the border.
    IT'S JUST BORIS!

I don't want to see anyone screwed out of a job, no matter if I agree with them on politics or not. I would personally put 10 years as the cutoff, as 20 is a long time and it's impossible to not change somewhat in that amount of time. As a human being, I hope you can get what you need sooner, rather than later.

That may be my saving grace in favor of my certificate. The length of time since then. I mean unless the immigration official has a rat up his or her arse how the hell can the NOT take that into account?

That real shame in this is if you were a refugee they would welcome you with open arms. Twenty years is ridiculous and I hope they take in consideration your situation after all you are not an illegal trying to run over the border, you are trying to get a JOB

In 2001,I drove my mom to North Bend WA from Fort Wayne IN so she could live closer to my sister who lived in the SeaTac area. My brother lived in North Bend. Regardless that the drive was interesting, my brother and I decided to cross the border into BC after settling her in.
When I tried to get in legally, the border check point ran my name.
Back in '81 I had a drunk driving charge. They actually had that info and denied me entry because of that charge. I was asked, kindly, not to return.

In the long run, it may take me longer to achieve my goal of driving motorcoach with Trailways, but I think the effort will pay off big. And there is no rush either. So I will start Monday by contacting the Canadian Consulate in NYC to get the ball rolling. Who knows, if I play my cards right (and pray), I should be able to get my certificate on the first try.
