    All about Mandates

Does everyone remember, back in 2004, when Bush beat Kerry, and it was a "clear mandate" to continue the Bush policies? Well, I find it interesting that Obama's victory was clearly not a mandate from the people.

Really? Let's look at some facts, shall we?

    2008:

Source: Dave Liep's Atlas of US Presidential elections

Now, a couple of numbers need to stick in your head:

Kerry won 48.27% of the popular vote in 2004. He also won 251 electoral votes.

Under those circumstances this was how Bush's victory was characterized this way:

    November 5 , 2004
Victory Gives Bush Mandate to Unite A Divided Country

Now, last week, Obama won his second term. let's look at those numbers, shall we?

Source: Dave Liep's Atlas of US Presidential elections

Now, as can be clearly seen, Romney only won 47.85% of the popular vote, and only 206 electoral votes.

So, lets recap, shall we? Kerry won more of the popular vote, and more of the electoral vote than Romney, but Bush's victory was a "clear mandate", while Obama's victory was "clearly not a mandate".

Ummmm...can anyone else smell the bull$#@! here?

Guess what, Republicans? Obama, and the Democrats won a clear mandate from the American People that they are tired of Republicans kissing the ass of the 1%, and expect Obama to do something about that, while sending an equally clear message to the Republicans: "Keep sitting on your asses, doing nothing, and see what happens in 2014!"

So, y'all might wanna think about that.
You don't get to vote for the party that supported, and legislated government forced vaginal probes, and then claim to oppose Obama because he represents "increased government control, and power".

Obama's election was rigged by murals on the walls at polling places in Florida and Penn. That's against the rules. You are not allowed to promote any candidate within 100ft of a polling place.

They had Black Panthers at a polling place in Penn. Intimidating Voters. There shouldn't be an election win for Obama, much less a mandate.

The links for my above post. You can see how Obama clearly cheated.

It was a nice try, but there is no mandate. There was no fair election.

Uh...no. Let's get that straight. They had one guy in a leather jacket, and a beret. Now if that is intimidating, then what dows that say about the army of "poll watchers" that "Tru the Vote" had out in the polling places?

You can whine all you like. Obama won a clear mandate, and it is time for him to finish the job he started.

What about the mural of The Great Kenyan King at different polling places? That's clearly cheating, you can't even deny it.

Thanks for the insightful maps and tables. As usual, I'm more interested in the thorns in the sides of the two major party nominees, so seeing that Johnson got about the same percent in 2012 as all of the third party nominees in 2004 is a real positive outcome of this election. Definitely hoping he'll run again in 2016 and be a spoiler candidate.

Why do you think a "Mandate to Unite A Divided Country" is the same as a mandate to continue Obama's policies ??

Why wouldn't Obama's "mandate" be to unite a divided country ??
It's ok if you disagree with me. I can't force you to be right.
