Better Call Saul highlights stress and mental illness in the legal profession.

Better Call Saul highlights stress and mental illness in the legal profession. We have to take substance abuse credits every two years b/c of the high incidence of abuse in the legal profession. I read one time when I passed the bar in 87 that after air traffic controllers, attorney was most stressful profession. I have no idea if it is still true....

It's probably more stressful for civilians that are wrongly charged by the government and either can't pay for proper representation or have to basically go into debt for it.

I'm not sure that you guys really understand what an attorney does, the duties and obligations an attorney owes the client, the court, the system or the bar nor the ethical standards that apply. As I said, it was a 1987 article so it's been awhile.

I think you see the glass half full being on that side, and I get that. And I'm aware that there are many lawyers that do heavily discounted work, and that is absolutely to be admired. However, people don't form these negative sentiments out of thin air, they form them out of actual experience in dealing with lawyers and the system.

    Unfortunately, so true.

Society would be a much better and more just place if all lawyers had ethics and a regard for justice and equal representation for all over greater profit margins. You seem like one of the good guys from what I can tell, keep fighting the good fight, we need as many as we can get.

Every job (well most of them) are stressful in their own way, and as I mentioned before I have no doubt that yours can be pretty tough. I don't mean to downplay the importance of it either, but think about it.

Police in larger metropolitan areas, active duty soldiers in combat zones (especially NCO and up), firefighters, hell,Trump's P.R. people, are all probably more stressful than attorney.

I'd say it's pretty stressful for the more junior lawyers in the firm who are expected to work 14 to 18 hours a day. I don't believe that senior lawyers put in those kinds of hours as a rule - perhaps leading up to a trial. However, at the end of the day, a legal practice is a business. If that business is trying to grow and make a great deal of money, then there will be a lot of clients and thus stressed out lawyers. Of course, it also depends on the type of law being practised. Somehow I don't see probate law or patent law being all that stressful.
