As an aside, the East River is actually very dangerous, one needs to be very careful in it. It isn't really a river, it connects the Long Island Sound and New York Harbor and the moon pulls tides both ways.

As an aside the twin Brother Island - North and South Brother Islands are actually much more interesting.

North Brother Island had a hospital on it. So did Roosevelt Island which was 'Welfare Island' (smallpox hospital). NYC quarantine!

Prior to 9/11 worst disaster in NYC history was the General Slocumb Ferry Boat and bodies washed up on the shore of North Brother Island.
