Al Gore defends Trump on North Korean nuke crisis:

Al Gore defends Trump on North Korean nuke crisis: ‘He can’t be blamed for all this’

Former VP: ‘The previous three presidents were not able to find an adequate solution’

One of President Trump’s most famous critics came to his defense this week after a vow of “fire and fury” for North Korea: former Vice President Al Gore.
The man behind the documentary “An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power” may not see eye-to-eye with Mr. Trump on environmental issues, but he told Newsweek for an interview published Friday that diplomatic crises over North Korea’s nuclear weapons program is another story. Mr. Gore took a moment while promoting his latest movie to remind the magazine’s audience of a rogue weapons program decades in the making.
“I think it’s only fair to point out he inherited this crisis,” Mr. Gore told Newsweek. “The previous three presidents were not able to find an adequate solution [to the North Korea crisis], so he can’t be blamed for all this.”
The former vice president said that Mr. Trump’s comments while speaking at the Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, New Jersey, on Tuesday were “unwise,” but he expressed confidence in Defense Secretary James Mattis and National Security Adviser H.R. McMaster.
“He has a secretary of defense and national security adviser, both of whom are immensely respected,” Mr. Gore said. “I hope he will listen to them, and I hope their cooler heads will prevail.”

    I dislike repeating myself.

    Previous presidents understood the issues.

We know the likely cost to South Korea should we strike the North. That harm is not acceptable to the US up to the point that the US mainland is able to be targeted by North Korea.

Do you think there is a practical way to protect South Korea in the event the United States attacks North Korea? For example, would they be able to evacuate border cities and towns without tipping their hand to North Korea? Could South Korea move more anti-missile systems onto the border, without North Korea noticing? Could the United States use another ally to distract North Korea?

Canada has virtually no system in place to protect the west coast if North Korea gets a missile that can hit that far out. I think if the Americans asked, Canadians might be willing to get involved from the get-go before treaties force us into it. If the United States gets into a conflict, they also have the right to call on every NATO partner, anyway.

Seoul essentially is a mega city up to the border.

If Seoul is evacuated the North would likely attack. Seoul has bomb shelters all over. They need to use them.

The US can't invoke the NATO alliance unless NK attacks first.

. What you would consider a traditional border city does not exist in Korea. There are cities close to the 38Th parallel like Munsan and Dong Du Chong, but they are basically part of the greater Seoul area now. An evacuation of greater Seoul is impossible.
