I've been around a lot of women's advocacy groups over the years, some of which could be described as indeed more out there than others, but I've yet to see a single one call for the disenfranchisement of men, so I think that worries about extreme misandry may be exaggerated. You may have to look pretty hard to find that level of it.Adelaide wrote:
A vast majority of people oppose the idea of taking away the rights of women to vote. A vast majority of people do not oppose women in the work force, although on an individual basis there may be some opposition to mothers in the workplace (my friend's marriages appear to fall into that category). It seems like there is a resurgence of men believing that when a woman becomes a mother she should suddenly be Debbie homemaker and do all the chores, all the errands, all the meals, while taking care of an infant... as though maternity leave is just vacation time. They fail to realize that when an infant sleeps, the mother has to sleep. Maybe it is a disconnect between a husband and wife (or wife/wife, husband/husband) where one can't understand the stress of being the one who takes care of the infant all day and the exhaustion of being a new mom.
While I do not think it will be an idea that will grow or spread, especially since my age group and the age group below me would consider this complete nonsense, it still makes me pause a bit. It might not catch on, but it is disconcerting that it exists to begin with. But, it also feels inevitable to some degree that some people seem so caught in the past and I bet if I looked there would be a handful of women advocating that men shouldn't vote. There are always a few crazy people or groups.
That point aside though, I think that, like many Democrats, you excessively romanticize younger Americans and carry a somewhat overly optimistic view of them. In reality, 58% of today's high school seniors, when surveyed on the subject, agree with the claim that the best family arrangement is one wherein the man is the main income-earner and the woman takes care of the home; up from 42% of high school seniors in 1994. 40% of high seniors furthermore agreed with the statement that "the husband should make all the important decisions in the family" in 2014; up from 30% of high school seniors two decades earlier. Statistically speaking, those are Bernie Sanders voters! I point that out to highlight that you can't necessarily always tell what someone's actual attitudes on everything are by their age or voting patterns. The youth represent the future, so if they're embracing more conservative views about gender roles, what does that imply the future most likely entails if not at minimum a further curbing of the rights of women?
(Thank you for your well thought-out post, by the way. THAT's the kind of contribution I was looking for!)

How do I formally request that Chris be banned from this thread because he's kind of wrecking everything? (I was looking for contributions more like Adelaide's.) Or is that no longer an option on the tPF threads? (Sorry, I'm no longer really in tune on how the rules have evolved lately.)
I appreciate your willingness.Chris wrote:
I'll leave your thread having made my point.
