There's no explanation or justification for this. When I was a deputy, I always tried to foster a good relationship with hospital staff. They had the ability to ruin my night when I would take someone there for treatment on the way to the jail. Besides, if you were nice and polite, you could get a couple of phone numbers.

You get a mix with cops especially in small towns. Some are just dicks who think they write the law like this $#@!stick. Some are great and I wish there were more of them. Courteous, able to make good decisions. Unfortunately I think the trend is to hammer protocol into these guys minds especially in this lawyered-up society we live in. Critical thinking and judgment be cast aside.

I remember when I was a kid, in high school and before that. I had run-ins with cops. I wasn't a degenerate as a kid but I could find myself in trouble at times. I was lucky, some of the $#@! I did back then might have warranted a felony today and that's a shame for today's kids, they can't be kids now and learn life's lessons without making the front page.

But the cops I had run-ins with were decent, they recognized that I was just a dumb kid doing dumb $#@! and just put some fear of God into me then sent me off on my way. The way it should be as far as I'm concerned.

I don't get why he went off like that. She was being very professional and trying to tell them how to work through the situation.

I don't know that officer's history, so I'm not prepared to say that he should be fired, but he certainly should face a substantial suspension.

If he is kept on, he should be demoted and start at the bottom and be totally retrained, even then, he may remain a liability waiting to happen.

You were a "deputy" usher at the Roxy theater.
Suppose you were an idiot. And suppose you were a member of Congress. But I digress....

There are regs pertaining to discipline. He can be suspended, but still retain his seniority. Yes, he should receive remedial training.

I like to believe people can and do change, but his obvious powertrip is likely to ingrained to change much. If he remains, the odds are a near certainty that he will act in a similar manner someday.

Another poster stated that sheltering cops like him from consequences hurts the credibility of the PD. I agree, BIG TIME.
