    Stopping the spread of deadly assault weapons

    Democrats want your guns and are demanding finer prints. This form of control of the people show democrats want to take away our rights and freedoms

    I doubt the democrats can get this approved by the house

    • Bans the sale, transfer, importation, or manufacturing of:
      • 120 specifically-named firearms;
      • Certain other semiautomatic rifles, handguns, shotguns that can accept a detachable magazine and have one or more military characteristics; and
      • Semiautomatic rifles and handguns with a fixed magazine that can accept more than 10 rounds.
    • Strengthens the 1994 Assault Weapons Ban and various state bans by:
      • Moving from a 2-characteristic test to a 1-characteristic test;
      • Eliminating the easy-to-remove bayonet mounts and flash suppressors from the characteristics test; and
      • Banning firearms with “thumbhole stocks” and “bullet buttons” to address attempts to “work around” prior bans.
    • Bans large-capacity ammunition feeding devices capable of accepting more than 10 rounds.
    • Protects legitimate hunters and the rights of existing gun owners by:
      • Grandfathering weapons legally possessed on the date of enactment;
      • Exempting over 900 specifically-named weapons used for hunting or sporting purposes; and
      • Exempting antique, manually-operated, and permanently disabled weapons.
    • Requires that grandfathered weapons be registered under the National Firearms Act, to include:
      • Background check of owner and any transferee;
      • Type and serial number of the firearm;
      • Positive identification, including photograph and fingerprint;
      • Certification from local law enforcement of identity and that possession would not violate State or local law; and
      • Dedicated funding for ATF to implement registration.

    Assault weapons are largely banned as it is. You have to have an FFL to own one legally.

    These weapons, just look like assault weapons, they aren't assault weapons.

    This is quite true Peter, but the MSM and congress people will use the term "assault weapon" to further their agenda.

    Who was it, on this forum that was claiming the right was using gun ban fear tactics and now we have the left lying about exactly what kind of guns to be banned.
    It's ok if you disagree with me. I can't force you to be right.

    Considering the political question at this moment is assault WEAPONS and not VEHICLES I'm a guessin' it's rather irrelevant.

    There was an interesting clip on NPR about Colt. The original factory was in Hartford and they're trying to petition to make the site a designated historical landmark.

    The interesting part was that the Colt redefined gun fighting. The six-shooter was the "assault weapon" of the time.

    Depends on what an assault weapon is ... is ... an assault weapon is more than a firearm ... it's how you use it as a(n) (tactical) assault on enemy combatants ...

    The 1873 Colt Peacemaker was sold to law enforcement only for 1 year. Then to all.

    But when we speak of assault weapons today, it is a legal term of art. None of the weapons covered by the proposed legislation fit.

    It's all about mind re-education .
    America needs to move away from barbarism but as you can't eradicate a religion , the Empire must be replaced by another and more civilised one .

    I think we will need assult weapons to do that?

    If this passes it will be interesting to see how many people will actually comply?

    each and every time national registration has came to the supreme courty they have declaired it unconstitutional.

    Obama will need one of the conservatives to die or retire to even have a chance.

    What this does however is help to divide the country even further, and that is something that the Democrats will like.

    And I also find that her statistics are a little tain
