In the interview I posted, post 12, she is defending the avant garde of the 60s against its take over by postmodernists following French philosophers like Jacques Derrida and Michel Foucault. It's the postmodernists who introduced identity politics to the left.

Camille Paglia is a progressive Femnist, I wouldnt expect her to make this statement.
No insurance pays for elective surgery or cosmetic surgery that isnt necessary.
Yet Transgenders want taxpayers to pay for their elective surgery.

I have gotten to know a few transgender people over the years. As much as I try, I still can't wrap my head around the idea of chopping off body parts. I treat them as I would anybody else though, but that does not mean that I have to suspend reality or science to do so. You are born either a male or a female. You're DNA determines that, and no surgery in the world can change your DNA. Furthermore, my tax dollars should not be used for elective surgeries, no matter what it is. Laziks, boob job, tummy tuck, gender reassignment... all elective.
