If the offspring of the Jewish survivors of the holocaust were informed by their parents of the atrocities commited by the Nazis, it seems unlikely that they would themselves become Nazis because to do so, would mean that they hate their fellow Jews.

So we need a new word to describe Jews who see Palestinians in way analogous with the way a Nazi would see a Jew.

It has to be a word which implies the inherent bigotry of a presumpition that ones race is superior to all others, AND it has to also include some reference to a supreme being who has sanctioned that idea as a valid perspective. And it has to be specific to the Jewish race, if such a race actually exists.

So IMO, the term Zionist is the more appropriate, and accurate name for SOME Jews, however, not necessarily the majority viewpoint of ALL Jews.
    OK. Let's call them Twinkies.

    PS: I am anti-Twinkie.

I see the Palestinians are likely to get UN recognition. Even those renowned US poodles, the UK and Australia (perhaps even our Merrill Lynch prime minister) are likely to abstain from the vote on whether Palestine should be given "observer state" status.

The Israelis and Yanks are, of course, screeching in unison. They will vote "no" but will have fewer accomplices.

Which should lead to some interesting things. Like Palestine taking Israel to the International Court for its war crimes.

Ah. I see I am a little behind the times I predicted.

The UN General Assembly has voted overwhelmingly to recognise Palestine as a non-member state, giving a major diplomatic triumph to president Mahmud Abbas despite fierce opposition from the United States and Israel.
The 193-member assembly voted 138-9 with 41 abstentions for the resolution which enables the Palestinians to join UN agencies and sign international treaties.
That's a rout for the US and Israel.

Which are now more isolated in the international community.

But it will give Obama more fodder for his two-state, 1967 borders, with swaps plan he announced a year or more ago.

Netanyahu will be incandescent and the Jews trembling.

The vote is before the General Assembly where the US doesn't have a veto.

I doubt that the Israels are interested in any proceeding before the IC.

Wow. No veto, huh? The US must be distraught.

The Israelis will have no choice. They lose either way. If they show up they are likely to be judicially convicted of war crimes. If they don't show up they will be equally condemned in the court of public opinion.

Not that they are already not.

The Israelis have never lived up to international obligations imposed on occupying powers. That is why world opinion turned against them. That is why my position was for Israel to let the Palestinians become a state.

Then if Palestine commits an act of war against Israel, Israel can defeat Palestine and end this entire long drawn out mess.

Why would Palestine "commit an act of war"? I imagine they would just be happy to get their land back.

Wow. Of the 9 "no" votes, half of them came from a bunch of insignificant South Sea islands.

The countries opposing the move were the US, Israel, Canada, the Czech Republic, Palau, Micronesia, Nauru, Panama and the Marshall Islands.
The Europeans abandoned the US and Israel en masse. God only knows what hold the US has over the Czechs. Even our government, which - like the UK and Australia - cosies up to the US at every opportunity, did not support them.

Funny how you're all about supposed Israeli war crimes and ignore Hamas war crimes.

In Gaza, it targets Israeli citizens with rockets, then shields its fighters behind Palestinian civilians.
    .........
it provoked Israel to attack a United Nations school from which Hamas was launching its rockets.
    .........
Hamas' tactic of firing rockets from schools, hospitals and mosques dates back to 2005, when Israel ended its occupation of Gaza

I'm a bettin' Israel say bring it on.
It's ok if you disagree with me. I can't force you to be right.
