No, it means attacks upon Israel are legally acts of war and the ass kicking that will follow is legal as well.

And the difference in effect would be what exactly?

Hopefully an end to this nonsense. That is, a thorough and uncompromising ass kicking that will hopefully kill the diehards and make the more sensible Palestinians realize that a rapprochement with Israel (at least a sincere acknowledgement of her right to exist!) is in their best interests.

Of course statehood would also allow Palestine to enter into bilateral treaties sanctioned by international law.

Maybe with China? Or Russia? Who may well be looking for a foothold to replace Syria when it collapses. It will need a base for its Mediterranean fleet. Perhaps Iran?

    That would make things interesting.

NZ doesn't really have a place in the international community. We can't blame the Hobbit for missing the point.

Then why do we have a constant stream of American officials turning up in our capital? And fond declarations of friendship in such as the Wellington and Washington Declarations?

Maybe. But I suspect they are more worried about the Chinese.

Last thing they would want is a Chinese enclave south of their puppet, Australia.

It would throw a spanner into their "pivoting".

I forgot. The TPP is also in town.

Wonder which way the Yanks will go on access to the American market?

•Comprehensive market access: The US has sensitivities in apparel and footwear and commodities such as sugar and dairy. The chamber says if America is to achieve its high ambitions in intellectual property, cross-border data flows, and state-owned enterprises (SOEs) the US Administration will have to "screw up its courage and improve its market access offers".
Jesus spoke to them, saying, "Take courage, it is I; do not be afraid."
