Most all counties affected by irma had curfews, we had 6pm to 6am. The reason was there was a madhouse of looting as the storm moved up the coast in southern florida. What wasnt damaged was being stolen. The only place I read that was the reason was in my local newspaper.
The put curfews in place to minimize the numbers of people, so law enforcement could minimize the looting loss's. Everyone was spread very thin. The other reason was cleanup crews were out all night clearing and cutting up trees and debris and didnt want to constantly stop for traffic. They needed to get it done fast and unimpeded.
No one needed to be out after dark the first couple of days after irma, other than necessary personel going to work, there wasnt anything open.

Perhaps the people in your neighboring county are behaving like drunken teens? Actually I don't really understand the legal authority for curfews and didn't even think curfews of adults were common. Probably just municipalities usurping power like telling you how high your grass can grow. Anyone who supports that ( which I doubt you do) should have any right to $#@! about this. We need to forget the $#@!ing donkephant and start standing up for each other's rights before we lose anymore of them.
How badly was your county hit, BTW?

Probably not as bad as some, but we had 2 tornados touch down, doing damage. I saw a power pole with a transformer on top, snapped clean off, 8 ft down, traffic signs blown over, giant trees down all over. A trampoline ended up on it's side, 3 yards down.
The peace river is only 2 ft below it's highest ever measured.
