Hahh! @silvereyes I was fishing on the Silver river ($#@! you not) I saw a moccasin coiled up near the bank, it started slowly going to the river, I grabbed it by the tail and kept yanking it backwards until I got a stick to pin it, I grabbed it behind the head, I did not realize how flexible the skull was, if my thumbnail was shorter, my thumb would be shorter.

Even at my young age, I had the sense to keep it in an outbuilding in a secure tank. My canuk stepdad "what kinda snake is that, eh?" me, "a banded water snake"

One day he goes in my room and finds a field guide, "that's a damn water moccasin"!


I had to hold the snake noose/stick while his shaky hands, wielded the axe!

Those things will chase humans. They are that agressive. Our city park duck pond has "watch for water moccasins" signs around it. One followed us one day. We were just strolling along as I fed the turtles when my ex-hubs took my hand and pulled me into his chest and spun me around towards the bench. I thought, "aw, how sweet. He wants to neck on the bench." I said, "oh, romance." He says, "no, snake" and points at the water moc swimming beside where I had just been walking. Yep. Silvereyes ran like the hounds of hell were chasing her.

My experience? They either hold their ground or leave at a very slow KMA sort of pace, now granted, I have only encountered about 4 in my life.

The one I kept as a pet? Drop a rat in the tank, snake hit so quick, you would doubt it had time to sink it's fangs, much less envenomate. That rat would spin in about 2 circles and be dead, snake would wait about 10 minutes, then eat!

I was 14, I was obsessed with reptiles as a child.

These days, I like to see them in the wild.

I used to keep pet lizards as a kid. I even had a pet Tarantula!
It never moved much, so one day I put some big black ants in its jar! It was doing an Irish Jig, as the ants were stinging it!

One day it fell onto the sidewalk from only about a foot, and it broke apart like Tiddly Winks!
