Anyway, what's happening now is not unique. In fact, in many ways it resembles the seismic political shift in this country that started in the 1890s and lasted until about the end of the Second World War. Since the dawn of our nation we've gone through periodic political realignments and 2016 was just the beginning of a new one.

All of these critiques of contemporary liberalism that I've posted seem to want to drop identity politics for a return to something earlier, some sort of either old-school Marxism or old-school Progressivism.

Part of it is because the radical left or "alt left" has become more extreme and is scaring the "mainstream left" in the other direction.

For example, members of the "alt-left" threatened the hosts of the liberal Daily Show with the guillotine and called them "Nazis" just because the show made a joke at the expense of ANTIFA terrorists in Berkeley:

The radical left is becoming the new Stormfront, and more and more fence-sitters and "moderate left" are being scared over towards the right:

Take the red pill, it might tastes bitter and not sit well, initially but it is better than living in the Matrix. Don't be a battery floating in a vat of pink goo eating soylent green!

What does "red pill' even mean? There's not any consistent definition.
Based on how it tends to be described online, it's basically sounds like just a watered down take on Nietzsche existentialism.

Plus I think the "red pill" term originated on "manosphere" or "pick-up artist websites" which centered around advice on how to pick up women, and I don't see how that has anything to do with "white nationalism" or alt-right politics.

In the movie the matrix, neo had 2 choices, take the red pill and see reality for what it truly is or take the blue pill and continue to "enjoy" the reality he perceived. He chose the red pill.

The reality was that he was living in a vat of pink goo along with millions of others, they were being Farmed as an energy source for the machines that enslaved humanity. They were immersed in a computer simulated dream world, they perceived as "reality".

The blue pill, represents making the choice to be a slave because the simulated "reality" was so pleasant, VS the real truth offered by the red pill, that reality was actually, vey unpleasant! @Devil'sAdvocate

Right, I'm aware that it originally came from the Matrix movies.

But what does "reality being unpleasant" have to do with alt-right politics, and isn't that subjective anyway?

In the manosphere/pickup artist community, the idea was that the truth that women won't respect a man who's weak and submissive just because he thinks he's a "nice guy", but I don't understand why this is associated with "alt right" or "white nationalism".

Not sure, I think it has more to do with some democrats seeing their party has been hijacked and they no longer, fit in or support it.
