You've got to be kidding me.
I'll give you a list:
As a gay man, I have seen more advances for people like me under Democratic adminstrations. I can now get married, serve in the Armed forces, and quite frankly be taken more seriously as a human being who has a lot to offer. Obama gave me that.
In short, I feel like a full member of society, with equal marriage rights, etc. The GOP did everything they could to prevent that from happening. And they still are trying. That makes no sense to me.
Now the flip side, the GOP has always said that if you work hard in this country, you'll succeed. I agree 100%. But they do nothing to insure equal opportunity. That's the problem. Hard work does not guarantee anything. Equal opportunity is what is needed.
Let me make one thing very clear, equal outcome is not the goal, and never has been. Equal opportunity is.
This country offers people so much, what people do with that opportunity is what matters. But we have to make sure that opportunity is available to all.
For me, we're getting closer. When I was a teen, gay people literally had no voice. It could end your career in a heartbeat if people knew you were gay back in the 80s. In some places it still can.
Democrats stood up for us back then, not the GOP. They hated us. The GOP still hates us.
So perianne, there's your answer.
Democrats literally gave me more equal opportunity. They still do.
I would not be where I am right now, which is a very successful person in advertising, without the efforts of the Democratic party and people like them.
As far as character traits for children, here's my advice: There will be people you don't understand who pose no threat to you. You may not like them, but you'll be told they're evil. Don't listen. Meet those who you are told to despise and realize they're just like you.
When the GOP finally gets here, we might have something to discuss. I hope it happens. Until then, no way.
You're too hell bent on keeping people out, rather than including them.
