Firearms question

All of my long guns are parkerized or stainless steel to reduce the chances of corrosion and are stored in a dehumidified gun safe. Sorry for the shouda coulda woulda monday morning quarterbacking.

If it is light surface rust, there is nothing to worry about. A good cleaning and lube should take care of that. Just check the bore and unless it is really badly pitted, you should be good to go.

I have a shotgun that my maternal grandfather bought in 1929, hung up in his home office and never fired. I think at this point that it qualifies as "wall art".

Use a cleaner and thoroughly clean them and put a think coat of oil, I doubt they are rusted that bad.

A little corrosion should not have an effect on the mechanical operation of the firearm. But you won't know how much corrosion is present until you give it a good cleaning with your oil. If you are really worried, then there is a way to set up a controlled fire to test the weapons without endangering yourself. All you need is a stable platform, a vice, and some string. Just attach the vice to the platform, place the firearm securely into the vice, and tie a slipknot around the trigger and the trigger housing. Then stand at a safe distance (behind a barrier preferably) and pull the string.

Theres a much easier way to dryfire and test your action, buy dummy shotgun rounds. They sell dryfire shells for all calibres, this was just a quick google, you should be able to buy them locally.
