This is why we appreciate jury nullification. The old guy is a hero.
Call your state legislators and insist they approve the Article V convention of States to propose amendments.

The robber stabs the hero in the neck. Isn't that attempted murder? So, the old guy takes the knife away and stabs the bad guy 17 times. He is gonna get in trouble for that? What if he had only stabbed him 10 times? Or 5?
If someone stabs me in the neck with a knife, and I could get the knife away from him, knowing what he would do to me if he gets the knife back (attempt to kill me), I think I would stab the bad guy until he is no longer able to fight any more.
The presence of a deadly weapon in an armed robbery suggests they are willing to seriously injure, or kill, someone else. Isn't deadly force acceptable to stop an armed robber?

Only until such time as he is no longer a threat. The older man had the knife at that point, and the would-be robber was subdued.

Perhaps he was. Perhaps he'd have tried to run away if he had managed to get up. I don't get to stab you seventeen times to prevent you from running away from me. Even the police do not - at least in theory - get to do something like that with impunity.

If only the old man had better skill with a knife and the criminal had died instantly after one stab without suffering ... then he would be a hero.
