Dogs don't attack without a reason. The people who claim "He just attacked me" are full of $#@! or lying to cover up their own actions. They did something to trigger the dog.

Pit Bulls were for decades, America's "nanny dogs". People trusted them to watch over their children. They were the most trusted breed in America. There is nothing wrong with the breed.

Banning wont work, they have to register pit bull breeders keep tabs on them and go after all the other half ass breeders that pump out puppies

Many pit bull lovers are in denial. That can be a careless and dangerous attitude.

Pit bulls can and have attacked for no apparent reason. That doesn't mean every pit bull will eventually attack and maul a human, but it is not smart to trust any pit bull.

It is not smart to completely trust ANY dog... or person. People kill and maim a Hell of a lot more people than Pit Bulls every year. Maybe we should consider a ban on them.

Pitbull lovers deny the truth there are too many inexplicable pit bull attacks by dogs not raised to fight or abused. You raise any dog to fight or abuse it, it becomes mean and dangerous.
    True that.

I don't like the idea of banning them though. I think they would make a great breed for military use though.

When people claim that a dog attacked them "for no reason" I never believe them. You may not understand the dog's reason, but they always have one.

I said that I don't support banning them. I also have trouble supporting a law which requires registration for a breeder. I don't know what that would accomplish. A pit bull breeder should be treated the same as any other breeder. There could be standards developed which help eliminate cruel puppy mill operations.

A dog can attack because you were walking on the sidewalk in front of it's home. It doesn't necessarily take an aggressive or provocative act.

Again emotion over reality. Bull dogs and rotwillers do almost all the dog kills of humans in our country. It's not just how their raised. It's inborn instinct to contiue the attack once begun unlike most dogs who bite once or twice and get out of there.
Just another area where empirical data is useless in the face of human emotion.
You could phase them out rather than put existing dogs down
