I had a friend who had an elderly uncle that made his own wine in his basement. The uncle would ask anyone near to give him their empty booze and wine bottles. For every 10 empties he would give you a fill-up of one bottle with his homemade wine. That stuff was terrible but we were underage and any booze was better than none. Maybe that is the reason I never got into wine later on?

Some old school Italians made their own wine around the corner from my parents. That tasted like juice.

Apple jack is simple, one pound of sugar per gallon and about a third of a teaspoon of yeast per gallon, let it cook for at least two weeks until all the yeast settles to the bottom and it clarifies, then siphon off, being care not to get the dead yeast on the bottom.

    Pretty decent and about 12%.

It is legal up to a certain amount as long as you don't sell it or distill it, IIRC.

Dang. There goes my thinking that I could make a small batch of Bourbon.
