I don't believe Tannerite is even classified as an explosive by ATF. It is available for unrestricted sale. You can buy it through the mail.

Tannerite is readily available to nearly anyone. Can buy it locally in small amount over the counter, can buy over the Internet in just about any quantity you want. It's not even all that expensive. I can think of a half a dozen people who probably have some right now. I have bought it before myself. This is a pretty weak reach.

I know some are desperate to link this to ISIS rather than some random whackjob, but this isn't evidence. This attempt to link them inadvertently links anyone who is in possession of Tannerite to ISIS with the "logic" presented.

True. When I saw the article that is what I thought. Not sure how the press picked up on it- they certainly don't know anything about explosives.

My first exposure to Tannerite was shooting a Barrett MRAD at about 945 yards. The target was a coffee can size container of Tannerite.

It is kind of cool because it gives you immediate feedback. You hit the target and Boom, a flash and a bunch of smoke.
