When an image is removed in moderation shouldn't the poster be notified so that they do not post the image again in the thread garnering a warning/infraction?

That used to be the protocol when I was a mod. I don't know why it would have changed.

5 years ago, we always notified the member, not for pefmission but as a courtesy before moving, editing something - unless it were a gross rule violation.

I have read people say that starting threads without participating in them is trolling. I start a lot of threads and sometimes don't participate. I just like starting conversations and reading what other people say.

Am I breaking the rules?

In general, I would say no. There would need to be more to it than just not participating.

I agree that they should be notified, and that was probably overlooked in the example you are thinking of. However, it is also the responsibility of members to pay attention to and heed in thread warnings/actions.
