Any dictionary. The subjugation of labor is slavery.
Words have both denotative and connotative meaning. The dictionary gives the denotation. People attach their own connotations.
If slavery must, as you seem to insist, have to do only with slavery of blacks in the South, what do we call the subjugation of blacks in the North, or Sumerian mountain men and women (what they called slaves)?
