Women Have ‘Responsibility’ to Not Appear ‘Inviting’

Could you even imagine if a republican had said this

Dem Rep on Avoiding Sexual Assault: Women Have ‘Responsibility’ to Not Appear ‘Inviting’
While the vast majority of people have condemned producer Harvey Weinstein in the wake of numerous allegations of sexual assault, rape, and harassment, there have been a few who’ve stepped forward to defend him, some even going so far as to suggest the woman may have been partly to blame.
In addition to people like Donna Karen who said the accusers may’ve been “asking for it,” Democratic Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson also believes women have a “responsibility” to avoid sexual assault by not appearing “inviting.”

"I grew up in a time when it was as much the woman's responsibility as a man's—how you were dressed, what your behavior was," the Texas legislator told Dallas' local NBC5.
"I'm from the old school that you can have behaviors that appear to be inviting. It can be interpreted as such," she continued. "That's the responsibility, I think, of the female."
The reporter interviewing Johnson asked if she believed it was time to stop talking about what women supposedly did to invite the abuse, and start asking about the power men have over these women.
Her answer didn’t get any better.
"I think we also need to start talking about the power that women have to control the situation," Johnson responded.

Blaming the victim is a pretty bipartisan sport.

There is a legitimate point being made by the legislator. If I show up to a BLM event wearing a confederate flag or MAGA hat, am I not inviting trouble?

Sure - opinions on display can cause problems. I wouldn't suggest anyone wear their beliefs in public since it just makes people with different views hostile.

Someone wearing a miniskirt or low cut shirt in public is not responsible if she is assaulted. Most college-aged women experiment with clothing, including more riske clothing. That is not an invitation to assault them. They aren't doing anything that millions of other college-aged girls and adults have done. And are we really going to let the rapist off the hook? He simply could not contain himself because she showed 2 extra inches of leg? C'mon. That's stupid.

If a guy cannot control his own urges because he sees a little leg or some cleavage, that is on him, not the woman walking by.

If a person cannot keep their hands to themselves when they see another person wearing a confederate flag or BLM tee shirt, that is on them, not the person wearing the shirt.

There is no right not to be aroused, just as there is no right not to be offended. People need to grow the f up and act like adults.

Speaking of which, young women need to get over this idea that the way they dress doesn't have consequences. Should assault be among them? Of course not but dressing the part will almost certainly bring unwanted sexual advances, staring and so on. That is not ever going to change.
Whoever criticizes capitalism, while approving immigration, whose working class is its first victim, had better shut up. Whoever criticizes immigration, while remaining silent about capitalism, should do the same.

Well that's a buncha bullship. Victim blaming at it finest. Don't care which side of the aisle he's on he's wrong.

I wasn't really talking about the catcalls or looks, even though it can be immature, it's the actual assaults/rapes being blamed on the victim. Looking for attention does not equal looking for abuse.
