This is the real reason why American politics is so polarized

Consider where they get their information. The news is packaged in the rhetoric of a deliberately partisan media. The news that is reported is designed to push buttons and thus compel the viewer or listener to return to that media source for more emotionally charged content. You notice that specific issues are carved out of the news on both sides of the political divide to harp on, over and over again. This is a form of propaganda, aka brainwashing. The left is compelled by stories of injustice, thus the liberal media features content that inflames the left with contempt for the perpetrators of bad acts against people. The right is compelled by stories that underscore the destruction of traditional values, both religious/cultural and fiscal. Politicians just parrot the political platforms created by the media in order to get elected. The real issues that would make a real difference in people's lives are rarely expressed because they are too dry to interest most people.

Very well put. However, through the ages there will always be someone willing to manipulate the truth to get what they want from the masses. Without "sheep syndrome" Hitler, Jim Jones and many others could of never had their way. Now as you so well put , the propaganda process is a scientifically designed psychological assualt.
Still , for this to ever end. For reality instead of perception to drive reactions : We must stand first as individuals , then as like minded groups of unmanipulatable individuals . We must become less subject to large scale manipulation first. Otherwise the power of the donkephant, the control of the megacorps, the wars, the polorization , all of it will just get even worse.
