    Primarily your IP address, but also location, browser configuration and semantics.     There are a few other clues that can come up. Socks very seldom change their gender in sites that require to state yours and if they do, that is usually a dead give away because men post like men and women post like women. There tends to be a gender style in word choices, etc.
