Caveman made spears, just for killing. They sharpened sticks to use as tools and weapons. Slingshots, I do believe, were made for use as weapons......the list, really, goes on and on.

The spears used by cavemen were also used to carve meat from the kill, shear, pound, and remove furs after killing. Their uses were varied, making the weapon less important than it's ability to kill. Let's note that once guns are confiscated, you are free to create spears out of rocks, wood, and rope and kill all the people you wish.

I don't understand the reference to the middle ages, unless it refers to the guillotine*, in which case I stand corrected. Yes, the guillotine was invented with the sole purpose of killing. Feel free to point me to the nearest guillotine currently in use for this purpose.

But, they had to use the spear to first, kill whatever they were skinning.....the spear wasn't made to skin, it was made to kill whatever was skinned after being killed.....kinda hard to skin a live animal.
