For what purpose, would people need to carry a switchblade, or, any knife, around with them?

I use mine at work, opening a box while standing on a ladder (sometimes quite precariously) and hanging on with one hand, being able to open and close said knife with one hand is awesome. Plus they are really cool

The stabber was wearing a security guard uniform and they claim an off duty policeman shot him. That's all I know.
