Oil linked us to the Saudis. We would have been better supporting Iran, however 1979 made that impossible.

The analogy here is when the US backed Saadam Insane against Iran which decimated Iraq, and softened them up for Desert Storm.

Some in Israel would like to see that, others not so much. The war party in Israel is playing with fire though. Any war between Iran and Saudi Arabia would probably result in massive risk to Israel.

Not necessarily. The Kurds are mostly Sunnis and they are siding with Shiites in Syria. Granted, the Kurds will not shy away from clashing with Shiites if conditions permit, but they are more than willing to work with Shiites in the fight against the Salafists.

I agree about the Kurds, but they are not Arabs.

I am not so sure about that. Iran may need Hezbollah to focus on SA, not Israel. Otherwise it splits Iran's forces and brings the Israeli air force into a war against Iran.

Trump, the man who promised to keep Americans out of new Middle Eastern wars, seems excited at the prospect of a war between Saudi Arabia and Iran. But will he stop short of involving Americans? Remains to be seen.
Without war and constant threat there of they'd have to deal our deep domestic issues and inability to produce a vibrant peacetime economy.

Right. Their ethnic identity plays into it just as much as their religion, if not more so.
