Unfortunately, just because you have been careful of not abusing antibiotics it will not stop a resistant bacteria that gets the opportunity to invade your body if the conditions allow it. I had a bladder infection that came back with a bacteria that was listed as resistant against all antibiotics. Guess what they gave me antibiotics and I got rid of it. I asked my doctor why do they say this species of bacteria is labeled as antibiotic resistant when the antibiotics he gave me cleared it up, he replied that he didn't know.

This is not the first time that they have experienced this plague. They have had several outbreaks in the last ten years.

This is the a different version than in the pass decade in Madagascar that is much easier to spread.

No, the plague is not at pandemic stages in most of the world. Air travel, or ship travel can change that fast.

Address the issue of antibiotic resistance. It is happening with other pathogens. What if the plague mutates and our antibiotics no longer work on it?

Why? What if someone from Madagascar who was exposed gets on an airplane and gets to a major city in Africa like Egypt? What if he infected several people on his flight. And those people continue onto other countries? And so on.

I sit at times with Neurologist and others and this is their favorite subject and they come up with theories on how this is being spread. We know it has to do with rats but they come up with more than just this.

In Madagascar they don't heed warnings and still practice "dancing with the dead". This is when they go back to the tombs, dig up and dance and replace cloth before putting them back. Everyone in the village is invited.
Another view, scientist went back to find out why certain ones in the 1300's seemed immune. The ones they knew didn't have it they exhumed, all had something in common in their DNA makeup. That leaves the question, is it possible to target certain people. Can this be man made or was it just an outbreak.
Last view, the two men in Asia were homosexuals that the antibiotics didn't work on. Could they have had HIV that complicated their treatment? Or is this a real new strain. Or does it only attack certain DNA makeups.

A prominent medical researcher is concerned that the current epidemic on Madagascar could go global. Antibiotics work as a treatment for the plague so long as they are administered early. And that protect lasted until the plague mutates in response and becomes antibiotic resistant.

If treatment is not received within 24 hours of when the first symptoms occur, death may occur. Antibiotics such as streptomycin, gentamicin, doxycycline, orciprofloxacin are used to treat plague. Oxygen, intravenous fluids, and respiratory support usually are also needed.Jun 9, 2011
