Im not, and I resent being made to work for them for no pay.
I'm talking about self.checkout lines.
It's not just that I'm being made to work for free, it's that I'm doing a job someone used to get paid to do. I don't want to take someone else's job, they probably need it. I'm helping stuff the pockets of some corporate bigwig while someone else is unemployed. That sucks.
The equipment is invariably in poor condition. Scanners so scratched you have to wave your product back and forth over them, screens that are all but unreadable and have been worn out on all the spots you need to push. The one employee who is watching all 15 stations knows less about them than I do. And there's is always that one item that scans fine but the computer doesn't recognize it or know the price.
I went 3 places on the way home from work.
Home Depot because they have led bulbs on sale. One manned checkout line with 10 people waiting so I go to the self checkout. Scanner is so scarred up it can't read the barcode. The attendant is helping some moron with 2 carts full of crap who thought self check was the right place for him so I moved to the next empty space and scanned my item. The attendant who couldn't be bothered with helping me flipped out because I abandoned a machine after starting to check out.
Target for cat litter. Two manned lines open, both backed up. This time the machinery works perfect but the damn thing ran outta change after in put in my money.
Dillons for some local grown fresh veggies. Of course I grabbed the only damned zucchini without a Barcode on it, and the touchscreen is trashed.
And they need to STFU! "Place the item in the bag" I did place the $#@!ing item in the bag. It's a pack of chewing gum and the scale under the bagging area isn't sensitive enough to tell.whether I put it there or not.
I hate these things. I actually think I'd rather slam my fingers in a door than use another one.
