Florida man accused of drowning raccoon

TAVARES, Fla. - A Central Florida man was arrested on suspicion of caging and drowning a raccoon because the animal killed some of his chickens and damaged his home.
James Miller, of Tavares, was arrested Friday on animal cruelty charges. According to the Lake County Sheriff's Office, a woman called authorities and said her neighbor took a caged raccoon onto his pontoon boat and dropped the cage into the water.
The woman said she told her neighbor that drowning an animal was inhumane and he should instead call animal services, according to deputies.
Miller replied, "The raccoon was in my house," and left the cage in the water for several minutes, killing the raccoon, deputies said.

Authorities questioned Miller's wife, who said the raccoon had killed some of her chickens and later got into their house, according to deputies. Miller was later arrested and taken into custody

I don't know what to say about this one. He killed the raccoon that was killing his chickens and wreaking his house and he was arrested.

Should of shot it, or relocated it. I feed 6 feral cats for a friend who is gone often. Sitting on the porch one evening, drinking a beer I saw a coon come run the cats off the food. I live trapped it, transported it on my bicycle trailer, about 3 miles and set it loose.

    Have not seen it return.

Pretty cool little $#@! animals but if they get in the chickens that's a wrap. I'd say shoot it but sounds like he's in city limits.

Meh.. the world isn't lacking in raccoons so who cares how he killed it.

I think the issue is that he didn't kill it so much as he basically tortured it to death in their eyes.

I intensely dislike raccoons; they seem to find a way to get into my chicken coop, kill the chickens but don't eat very much of the poor unfortunate bird. One night they killed six of my prized Black Giants.

Once I tell you that we agree to disagree there will be no more discussion between us in the thread so please don't waste your time continuing to argue your points because I will not respond.

People like their chickens like some like their cats and dogs. We use to hear them scream when a bob cat would be around. My mom liked those chickens. I mean you can hit bobcats, maybe shoot or use a knife at them and they may not die fast. It may be not humane to some but you don't know how he felt about those chickens and I am sure they were torn up. So I can't see arresting this guy. Just like if you had a dog another was throwing around and tearing apart, you will do anything to protect them that you can.
