It is true that the tension between pacifism and the reality of living in a violent world was much less marked in Islam than it was in Christianity, for example, but the sheer brutality we are witnessing today does not, IMO, have roots in the Koran but in desperation. Globalization, which amounts to the imposition of Western lifestyles on the rest of the world, provokes responses.

I have been promoting the YPG and the YPJ (the latter being a section of the former) on PF for years now, mostly in the World Affairs forum and, taking inspiration from their example, have frequently characterized myself as a communalist anarchist (that being the official YPG political outlook) for the last two years. The reason I've all but ceased posting on PF of late is exemplified by this other post you made:Cthulhu wrote:
I was personally elated when I heard of this. This is the kind of stuff @IMPress Polly should be talking about.
And so we see that, for you, like with most PF members, this is actually just being used as an excuse to complain about the women's movement rather than sincerely support its goals. Finally, feminism worth a damn.
I hadn't heard about this film though, so I would like to thank @Adelaide for bringing it to our attention! I am highly interested! It's difficult to find anything other than written reports about YPG activities from the front lines. I'll definitely be seeing this documentary at my earliest opportunity.

Not dogging on feminism over here - presently. I certainly have in the past, and will do so in the future.
But they were not the topic. These girls that are fighting back and taking a stand against an actual "evil patriarchy" so to speak - is hella awesome. I got nothing but kudos for them. I think it sucks that they have been driven to this point, but it is no less admirable.
Just because I don't swallow feminist tripe that is doled out here in the states doesn't mean that there isn't serious gender issues elsewhere in the world that I do care about.

The Kurdish female warriors are to be admired. But they are not a light infantry force- carrying 100+ pounds for weeks on end.
I have always said, outside of the moral question, women can do mechanized and motorized infantry jobs just fine.
