While self interest and percieved self interest is much of what's wrong with our politics some on both "sides" generally mean well and have been sucked in buy the propaganda. Remember not so long ago most people trusted their government and while somewhat foolish the country still prospered and most of the BOR's were respected most of the time. Those days are gone but that learned behavior of trusting and voting either "A" or "B" is still strong in many.
I do often wonder though if the celebrity dems tell their tax accountants to act like repubs in April?

They don't deserve to be called "Democratic".
Power always thinks it has a great soul, and vast views, beyond the comprehension of the weak. And that it is doing God service when it is violating all His laws.

Hmm, more complicated. My dad is a blue dog Democrat. His oldest, me, a libertarian anarchist. Next, a hard right Republican. Last, a hard left Democrat. We manage, when we get together, to talk politics, but my mom doesn't like talking politics or religion. Not sure how to account for all that, some rebelliousness, some aiming to please.

Wow, sounds like your your parents, like my wife and I raised free thinkers. Sadly the government is on to how we do that and trying to stamp that awful practice out!

I have a similar political representation with my boys and myself. I have one son (oldest) who is republican, one is an independent like myself (he's the baby) and my middle son is a democrat (but not a bleeding heart).

They don't discuss politics between themselves but they do talk with me about their views.

Interesting how that happens. It probably didn't happen much a generation or so ago, what Peter said was likely true, our family was always democrat till me and my brothers--always religious too till us.

My brothers and I can talk politics, not all three at once, but I can talk to each.
