Seems to be more effective than mere warnings.

I'm OK with either, long as the rule is communicated clearly and enforced consistently.

Maybe enforce strictly but, rather than penalizing natural drift, split it off to a new topic.

In the words of Ted Striker, "Irony can be pretty ironic sometimes."

Considering the source of the majority of posts in this thread, the "address the post, not the poster" theme is borderline hysterical. As for the OP's mention of "grudges"...the mind boggles.

Could we try and keep this town hall impersonal and constructive.

Yea, in the situation where a member is suggesting changes due to the forum dying, I find it highly ironic that the changes proposed is being discussed by the biggest offenders here.
“Conscientiously believing that the proper condition of the negro is slavery, or a complete subjection to the white man, and entertaining the belief that the day is not distant when the old Union will be restored with slavery nationally declared to be the proper condition of all of African descent, and in view of the future harmony and progress of all the States of America, I have been induced to issue this address, so that there may be no misunderstanding in the future”

Jim, you don't understand the passages you've been citing this morning.

IOW, apply Rawl's veil of ignorance. In suggesting rules realize they should be applied to blind justice even to you.

    3. Punish the instigator, not the respondent.

This is something that has always confused me. Why is it that the instigator and the person who responds to instigation are treated the same? Nowhere else in society or law is the kind of standard adhered to. If someone sucker punched you and you punched them back, would you be just as guilty as the person who attacked you? Of course not. The idea that you can only punish an instigator if their victim failed to respond is just nonsensical.
Power always thinks it has a great soul, and vast views, beyond the comprehension of the weak. And that it is doing God service when it is violating all His laws.
