    The modern shortening of "Christians"

As the Christmas season approaches, it seems like an appropriate time to mention this. For many decades now, Christmas has often been termed "Xmas." The usual rationalization for this is that the Greek letter, chi (at least, the uncial), looks exactly like our letter, "X"; and chi is the first letter of "Christ." More and more, however, I am seeing Christians referred to as "Xtians." Since there is a "t" in "Xtians," it would be a redundancy if the "X" refers to Christ (which also contains a "t"). Do others see the flaw in their argument, also?

It's probably a typo, the most common form I've seen is "xians." Regardless, it's an extremely fringe practice, I can't even recall the last time I saw it occur. So I wouldn't worry too much about it.

My son is a graduate with a doctorate in Theology. He told me Xmas is from the middle ages. It was very acceptable then.

Does he say that "Xtians" (which is really the central point of this thread) is also a holdover from the Middle Ages?

I doubt that it is a mere typo, as even the Urban Dictionary shows the word--and with a "t."

Is there a reason you ignored the main point of my post?

Nah, I misread this thread. I've never heard of any of these what thought it was.

I think that is known as the fallacy of the complex question. (It first needs to be established that I did, indeed, ignore "the main point of [your] post"; after which, one can proceed to the question of why.)

The main point of the post is that calling Christians “xians” (or “xtians”) is an extremely fringe practice that isn’t worth worrying about. The proof that you ignored it is the fact that you cut it out of the quote and made no attempt to reference it.
