ESPN MELTDOWN CONTINUES: Networks Lays Off 150 More Employees

ESPN President John Skipper sent a memo to employees on Wednesday explaining the latest cuts. He wrote: ............ Today we are informing approximately 150 people at ESPN that their jobs are being eliminated. We appreciate their contributions, and will assist them as much as possible in this difficult moment with severance, a 2017 bonus, the continuation of health benefits and outplacement services. They will also appreciate your support. The majority of the jobs eliminated are in studio production, digital content, and technology and they generally reflect decisions to do less in certain instances and re-direct resources. We will continue to invest in ways which will best position us to serve the modern sports fan and support the success of our business. ............ http://www.dailywire.com/news/24096/...e-hank-berrien ............ You can play with attendance numbers and ratings numbers all ya want, but if they were up layoffs wouldn't be going down.

What does ESPN’s hiring/firing practices have to do with the NFL?

ESPN pays top dollar for the NFL, read somewhere 1.9 billion through 2020, ratings are way down for MNF.

ESPN has been trending down for a good few years. I don’t even watch their stuff, so good riddance.

Yet...in 2015 they fired more employees than in 2017, but we are supposed to believe this is because of the NFL and players kneeling....http://money.cnn.com/2015/10/20/medi...ffs/index.html

    Yea...meltdown indeed...

Sorry, I wasn’t clear. My point was that ESPN’s downfall has been coming for years due to a number of factors.

I read you loud and clear, I was addressing the other two comments that attempted to portray this as some sort of result from the NFL, simply because they don't agree with the "kneeling".

My issue with many of these sports shows is they hire too many ex athletes rather than sports analysts. I don't want to sit there a watch a guy who isn't capable of breaking down the play or incorporating other related facts and scenario's into the conversation and they won't criticize their ex team mates or friends.

There's only so much sports you can do 24/7 for years on end without eventually looking silly. Looks like evetually is here.
