White House is expected to announce US recognition of Jerusalem as soon as Tuesday

I think the US should remain silent on this issue. It will just exacerbate the complex situation in the region.

President Donald Trump is expected to announce as early as Tuesday that the US recognizes Jerusalem as Israel's capital, US officials with direct knowledge and foreign diplomats have told CNN.

Trump is expected to make the announcement as he signs a waiver to keep the US embassy in Tel Aviv for another six months but says his administration will move the diplomatic mission to Jerusalem at some point -- a goal long sought by Israel.

Sources believe that Trump will attempt to soften the announcement for Palestinians, possibly, as CNN reported Thursday, by specifying only West Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, as opposed to the eastern part of the city, which Palestinians want to claim as their own seat of government.
And whatever happens, moving the embassy is a waste of tax dollars. The security requirements for new embassies are extremely expensive.

    Red face

Palestinians got dey's intifadas inna gather...

1 dead, 250 injured as Israeli troops, Palestinians clash over Trump move
Dec. 8, 2017 -- Israeli troops killed at least one Palestinian protester as clashes escalated over U.S. President Donald Trump's declaration of Jerusalem as Israel's capital.
The Health Ministry in Gaza reported Mohammad al-Masri, 30, was shot by Israeli Defense Forces east of Khan Younis. An estimated 3,000 Palestinian protesters held demonstrations and clashed with IDF at nearly 30 locations across the West Bank and Gaza Strip -- leaving nearly 250 Palestinians injured. Palestinian protesters threw rocks at IDF soldiers in Bethlehem after Friday prayers near the Jacir Palace Hotel, officials said. Israeli forces responded by firing tear gas. The Palestinian Red Crescent said 40 people in Kusra struggled with tear gas inhalation.

Palestinians burn tires in Khan Younis in the southern Gaza Strip Friday during a protest against U.S. President Donald Trump's decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

Protests also ensued across the Muslim world, as demonstrations were planned in Iraq, Egypt and Turkey. Iranian prayer leader Ayatollah Khatami called for mass protests over Trump's move, which some analysts say now makes the Israeli-Palestinian conflict more difficult. "He proved that the cure for the issue of Palestine is only, only, an intifada," Khatami said. "Only intifadas can turn day into a dark night for the Zionist regime." At the U.S. Embassy in Indonesia, hundreds of protesters waved Palestinian flags and chanted "Allahu Akbar" or "God is greatest." In Malaysia, protesters burned Trump in effigy.

Palestinians burn tires in Khan Younis in the southern Gaza Strip Friday during a protest against U.S. President Donald Trump's decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

The worldwide protests were sparked by Trump's announcement Wednesday that the United States would move its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem and recognize the latter as the capital of Israel. Previous U.S. presidents have refused to take that step -- believing Jerusalem's status should be negotiated between Israelis and Palestinians. French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian said the move may prevent the United States from mediating future Palestinian-Israeli peace talks -- something it's done for decades. "Until now, it could have had a mediation role in this conflict, but it has excluded itself a little," Le Drian said. "The reality is they are alone and isolated on this issue."

Nikki Haley: U.S. Embassy move in Israel 'absolutely the right thing to do'
Dec. 10, 2017 -- U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley is defending President Donald Trump's plan to move the U.S. Embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
Asked on Sunday's Face the Nation program on CBS why -- given the violence and tension in the Middle East -- this is a priority and in America's best interest at this point in time, Haley replied, "This is a move the American people have asked for for 22 years and, six months ago, the Senate overwhelmingly again asked for the embassy to be moved." She went on to say every recent presidential candidate -- regardless of his or her political party -- has recognized Jerusalem as Israel's capital and agreed the U.S. embassy should be located there. "President Trump is the only one who had the courage to actually do that," Haley said. "What this does is basically do what we do in almost every other country, which is put the embassy in the capital city and Jerusalem is where the prime minister is, the president is, the parliament, the supreme court. It makes sense for our embassy to be there."

U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley appeared on Sunday's "Face the Nation" and defended U.S, President Donald Trump's plan to move the U.S. Embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

Interviewer John Dickerson pressed further on why Wednesday's announcement needed to be made now and if the move is worth the violence it has sparked. Haley countered: "Because it is the right thing to do. It is absolutely the right thing to do. "Look, for the last 22 years, everyone around every president has said, 'Just wait, just wait, just wait.' And President Trump is not going to wait any more," Haley said. "It's the right thing to do because it is just reality. Jerusalem is the capital of Israel. They have said that. When the American people say they want something, it is their will that we are supposed to follow."

She said Trump avoided speaking last week about boundaries and borders in the region because the final status of Jerusalem is between the Palestinians and the Israelis to determine. "It's not for the Americans to decide, so we are doing what we do in every other country. Israel should be no different and then we are going to continue to support the peace process," she said. "Courage breeds leadership. What you saw, was you saw a courageous move by the president. And, of course, any time you have to use courage, any time you have to go against the status quo, you're going to have people saying, 'The sky is falling.' But the sky is not falling. If anything, what we are going to see is both sides are going to come to the table. They are going to decide what they think Jerusalem should look like and we are going to support that process."

Now the crazy $#@!s are more upset about recognition of a capital than they are by arms that kill them. We are whackadoodle but those folks make us look sane!
